As the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to release its twelfth film for the franchise, DC is trying to prove that it’s ready to play catch up! For the first time ever we will see Superman (Henry Cavill) and Batman (Ben Affleck) on the big screen, at the SAME TIME!! In a trailer filled with orgasmic action sequences, and secretive Easter eggs, one can only wonder what exactly we are in store for when we step into theaters on March 25th of next year.
We see our first full view of Bruce Wayne as he witnesses Wayne Enterprises be destroyed by what appears to be Superman’s eye lasers. When going down the list of Ben Affleck’s resume, I have no doubt that he will play the part to perfection and will be worthy to be named in the same sentence as Michael Keaton and Christian Bale’s Batman.
On the other hand we have the iconic Man of Steel better known as Superman AKA Clark Kent whom has already established his character in the first DCCU film. However, I am very interested to see the growth in Henry Cavill’s Superman. How much does he change now that the world knows of him and how does being acknowledged as a hero and a god change him? Or as Mama Kent put it: “Be their hero, be their angel, be their monument, be everything that they need you to be. Or don’t be anything; you don’t owe the world a thing.” Will he be the people’s everything or will he ride off into the sunset?
If I had to point out one questionable character that also debuted in the trailer would have to be Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. Based on the trailer, I felt like I was watching his Mark Zuckerberg character off of the Social Network with weird hair and a quick one liner of “the red capes are coming.” I really hope that the DCCU is prepared to give us what we deserve in terms of a quality Lex Luthor and letss remember that the responsiblity is on both the actor and the director for the quality of the character. But I must say that I have faith in Zack Snyder’s ability as a director and Jesse Eisenberg has not given me a reason to doubt his acting skills.
All in all, this trailer gave us all that we wanted it to see and more. It gave us the first ever live screen Batman/Superman standoff, a robin/joker easter egg, and even a little bit of Wonder Woman in action. I fully expect this movie to be everything the title makes us expect. It will confirm the thoughts of the believers and will erase the doubts of the doubters.
